Announcing the Seward Science Symposium, happening on Saturday, September 6th & 7th, 2024, at the K.M. Rae Building! This event is free and all are welcome. Register in advance to secure your spot for presentations on Saturday as seating is limited.

 

The Seward Science Symposium is an event focused on highlighting local science and research. Our goal is to raise the visibility of and support for science in the surrounding community, including Indigenous-led research, and build a local sense of pride, identity, stewardship, and enhanced connection to our environment.

Poster Session & First Friday Artwalk
Friday, September 6, 6 PM - 8 PM
Learn about research projects happening in our community by perusing scientific posters and enjoy art featured by local artist, Marissa Beck. Walk-ins welcome.

 

Scientific Presentations

Saturday, September 7, 10 AM - 5 PM
Local researchers, educators, and community members will present on relevant science, cultural work, and the connections between the two.
 
Presented by Stewards of the Bay, a collaborative partnership between Seward-area organizations, bringing together local science, culture, and community.

Stewards of the Bay partners:  Chugach Regional Resources Commission's Alutiiq Pride Marine Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks Seward Marine Center, National Park Service Ocean Alaska Science and Learning Center, and the Alaska SeaLife Center.

 

Additional Information

Location: All presentations will take place at the K.M. Rae Marine Education Building at 125 3rd Ave, Seward, AK.

Parking: There is free parking at the K.M. Rae Building.

Lunch: There is a break for lunch; though, lunch is not provided as part of the symposium. Visit one of our great local restaurants or food trucks on 4th Avenue!
