COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In collaboration with
the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Karen C. Drayer Wildlife
Health Center (WHC) of the University of California Davis School of Veterinary
Medicine, the Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC) was awarded a grant from the Institute
of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to work with AZA to create and sustain a
national network of animal care professionals to respond to oil spills and
other disaster events across the country. Under the grant, ASLC will work with
WHC, to develop and deliver training courses geared towards wildlife
responders, a mutual aid framework, and a searchable database to facilitate
rapid identification and deployment of appropriately trained professionals from
the animal care community.
The training includes a
12-16 hour online study portion prior to attending the course, and 2 days of
classroom time, including a response drill on day 2. The online study portion
comprises of 2 ICS baseline courses through FEMA and online modules through
LearningZen. Upon completion of this course and the associated coursework,
participants will receive a 24- hour HAZWOPER certificate good for 1 year.
Subsequent years are renewed with an 8-hour online refresher course.

TIME:
8:00am – 5:00pm with a 1- hour lunch break.
FOOD:
Snacks/drinks and lunch will be provided both
days.

PRE-COURSE ONLINE TRAININGS REQUIRED:
Upon registration, attendees will receive an
automated message and email with a link to the ICS Baseline Courses through
FEMA that are required prior to the workshop. These trainings will take about 3
hours each to complete.
When registration is closed attendees will
receive additional emails from Jamie Auletta (ASLC) and LearningZen to get
set-up with the rest of the coursework.
ANNUAL REFRESHER:There is an annual
required 8-hour refresher that can be taken online.
